NEWS: Charleston magician, David Lee Parker, will be cheating guests at the Gaillard Municipal Auditorium February 1, 2012. This private event is for the great people of Carolina One Real Estate. The weapons he will be using to get the money from the “rubes” will be a deck of playing cards, years of sleight-of-hand practice, reading people (called “tells” in the poker world), physiology, psychological gambits, memory and misdirection.
THE CHEATER – Is a sleight of hand magic act corporate magician, David Lee Parker, who has been working on for over five years and is based from real world knowledge gained from his Uncle who is a 3rd generation professional gambler and cheat (or as he would like to say ‘I play the game to win”) . Around the age of fifteen, a young David Parker had a meeting with his Uncle who was a true phantom of the card table. He made his sole living by traveling across the United Stated playing poker at high stake games. He showed the secrets from the underground world of gambling and today at 87 he still talks about the old days of poker and the methods he used to remove the ‘fish’ from their money
THE CHEAT – AN GAMBLERS ACT:

Shows the common poker player how not to be cheated at the card table showing the most common methods used by the professional mechanic. The audience learns what to watch for and how to counter the methods in a fun and entertaining way. However in the tradition of the cheat he stings the audience using skills that have been learned over 40 years. Special deals, cuts, shuffles, deck switching, card mucking, and memory work alerts then that even after being in the know they can still be conned and enjoy it at the same time.

He was the president of The Greater Charleston Magic Club for over ten years, and was honored with the award of ‘Magician of the Year for South Carolina on January 14, 2006 at the International Gala Show hosted by the South Carolina Association of Magicians in Columbia, SC. Suffering from a dismissal or loss of a job can be a devastating experience for everyone, but it can be especially difficult for older an employee. Many people live this experience and the unemployment level is achieved, not seen in decades. The turnaround in the economy has affected many different areas and few people have jobs that are safe. Older workers have a difficult time finding other employment opportunities in a particular area.
The challenges of an older worker or one who has many years of experience by the fact that it reinforces many, many young people looking for jobs and employment opportunities in the same field. In my experience there are four things that can overcome the older worker. These are age, experience, training and conditions of the salary received.
First The age is an obstacle for many jobs and some jobs. Some companies (I should say) with an opening in a technical profession want to get as much experience as they are for less money. This will sometimes lead to a position with a young person to be able to do the job could be filled, but pay a salary or a lower salary than they would have a senior.
Second Experience is gained from many years in a job a job-seeker “best qualified” for many interesting positions. Experience is a double-edged sword, and most of the unemployed too much or too little. It is difficult to mask the experience and to be honest on resumes and cover letters. (more…)
